Reception Styles

The following list is a sample of food items offered and subject to change from season to season. Should you have a favorite recipe, we will be happy to look it over and if possible include it in your wedding feast. It is helpful to have an idea of your catering budget before calling our company to request an estimate. We will be better able to recommend a style of reception to not exceed your budget. Estimates will be given either per person or per item, however the estimate does not include wait staff to serve your guests, cleanup, or rental of needed serving pieces, china, tables, chairs, or linens. We only provide a price for the cost of each selected food items. All additional services will require a separate estimate based upon individual requests. We do not provide or serve alcohol, therefore, a separate vendor would be needed for such services.

Types of Receptions

Considerations for all Brides: Before you select the type of reception you want to serve it is important to consider several different contributing factors. Your reception budget and how many guests need to be served will often determine whether you will have a sit-down meal or a self-serve buffet style reception. The time of day of the reception also plays a big role in what type of meal will be served. Also to be included in the planning is your own personal taste. If you like all the elegance of people being served on fine china, then a sit-down meal will be your top choice. However, if you feel you would like a more relaxed reception where people can mingle, a buffet or food stations are more suitable for your reception.

We have three different catering options. First, we can provide drop-off food service. This service is very simple and least expensive. We will bring all the food to your reception site and leave it for you to serve. It is important to note that some of the food will need to be heated and some will need refrigeration. All of the heating instructions will be provided. You as the bride must ask friends or family members to help out with the heating of the food and placing the platters on your tables, as well as the service of your food. This is a great way to cut expense and still have a very lavish reception, and a wonderful way to include those special friends in your wedding. Another less expensive option is a self-serve buffet. We can arrange the first serving of the buffet and the bride can provide reliable friends or extended family to replenish food as needed. If necessary, we can provide wait staff to take care of both the initial food arrangement on the buffet tables and the service during the reception. Our final and most expensive option is full wait staff for a sit-down meal. This option includes only food service. It is important to note that when renting a reception site you must also rent the kitchen for sit-down meals. We will provide cleanup at an added expense. However, due to the extra cost of having a full staff present through the entire reception, we often encourage brides to have other options for cleanup.

It is also wise to include on your invitation the type of reception you have selected. As always, we are available to help you find the wedding reception that reflects your wedding style.

As a gift to every bride and groom, we will provide, if requested, a complimentary basket filled with wedding food to take with you when you leave the reception. It will be placed in the refrigerator.

Breakfast or Brunch Reception follows a morning wedding and usually begins by 10 a.m. Buffet style is often first choice for this type of reception. Types of foods may include large fruit trays as well as assorted breads with flavored spreads, jams, and jellies, and cheese and cold cuts are also a nice addition. A sit-down breakfast is also a possibility with breakfast casseroles and fresh fruit. Fresh juices, coffee, and tea will compliment both of these meals. A tasty selection of pastries and a wedding cake will be a nice completion to the reception.

A Luncheon is a great reception for a light early lunch if only salads are served with small appetizers, or lunch can also be a formal sit-down occasion. Luncheons are usually served between 12 and 3 p.m. We have a wide variety of salads and light appetizers listed on our food description list. Several of our salads, vegetable appetizers, and bread platters, paired with flavored ice tea and lemonade, will make a wonderful treat for a buffet style luncheon. Finishing off the meal with one of our Bride’s cake or Groom’s cake will be sure to please any crowd. This reception type is wonderful for a garden wedding. As always we can also provide a sit-down lunch consisting of hors d’oeuvres, followed by a salad and then an entrée and sides of your choice.

A Tea or Hors d’oeuvres Reception is often served between 2 and 4 p.m. Guests will be enticed by small tea sandwiches and a wonderful selection of finger foods. A nice selection of drinks including flavored ice tea, flavored water, coffee, and punch will compliment the dainties served. Pastries and wedding cake will be wonderful additions. This is often a choice reception type when serving a large number of guests on a limited budget. An hors d’oeuvres reception often includes many of the above selections, however, it is complimented with the addition of vegetable, cheese, and cold cut platters, or any assortment of more filling meat appetizers. Wedding Cake and Punch Reception will never go out of style. This reception is appropriate when the wedding is not at a mealtime. An elegant wedding cake and groom’s cake as well as punch, mints, nuts, and a few other cookies or desserts makes a wonderful reception.

A Lavish Dessert Reception is a lovely way to treat your wedding guests. For many who have an afternoon wedding or a late evening wedding, a dessert reception might be for you. A table filled with all the rich elegance of desserts such as cookies, pies, cakes, pastries, and cobblers will be a sweet dream come true. Most of all, don’t forget the main attraction…your wedding cake! By adding coffee, flavored tea, and punch to the list, your reception will be complete, and one your guests won’t forget.

Dinner Receptions are often very formal affairs and chosen by many to celebrate the most important day of their lives. This type of reception is usually served between 5 and 8 p.m. Guests are often encouraged to mingle during the receiving line and while the photos are being taken. During this time, hors d’oeuvres are usually served. A sit-down dinner will often include salad, entrée, one or two side dishes, bread, and wedding cake. However, dinner receptions can also be buffet style or food stations. The guests will serve themselves at a buffet style reception. Usually 2 or 3 main entrées are available as well as several side dishes, salads, and bread. Another alternative to the traditional buffet is a food station reception. Individual smaller buffet tables are arranged around the room. Different types of food are at each station so guests won’t have to wait in one long line. When guests serve themselves, it is critical to set up the buffet so that they can be served as quickly as possible. We will be happy to provide suggestions on how to arrange your tables at your reception.
